HHI Power Systems to Build a Carbon Capture Plant for Kumho Petrochemical

Hyundai Heavy Industries Power Systems (HPS) and Kumho Petrochemical (Kumho) together held a groundbreaking ceremony for a carbon capture & liquefaction plant on December 1st. at Kumho’s petrochemical plant located in Yeosu, Korea.

 

Last June, HPS and Kumho signed an EPC contract for a carbon capture plant that is capable of capturing 220 tonnes of CO2 per day, followed by another EPC contract for a liquefaction plant on September. Construction is to start on December and aim to start commission by May 2025.

 

HPS aims to join the ranks of the leading CCUS players by actively participating in a variety CCUS projects. HPS has recently completed the construction of a 3MWth Chemical Looping Combustion plant in conjunction with KEPCO Research Institute, and is participating in a national project to co-develop a liquid amine customized for combined cycle power plants with KEPCO Research Institute, and has also acquired an Approval in Principle (AIP) for an on-board CCS unit issued by the American Bureau of Shipping(ABS).
